Henry Samueli School of Engineering

These guidelines pertain to students with 90 units or less, unless the student has already made substantial progress in courses required for the major. Please contact the School of Engineering academic counseling office for more information.

Freshmen who are on track to complete prerequisite coursework by the end of the first year and currently meet the minimum GPA criteria are encouraged to apply immediately.

Students wishing to declare a dual major in the School of Engineering need to meet the requirements of each individual major as listed below, and in addition have an overall GPA of 3.00 or higher. Dual majors are not allowed with either of the two Biomedical Engineering majors.

Change of Major Requirements:

Aerospace Engineering
Requirements Description
Cumulative UC GPA 2.70 GPA
Course grades
  • Minimum 3.0 overall GPA in all courses required for the major with no grade below a ‘C’
  • A maximum of 6 units of repeats in courses required for the major
  • Completion of the following courses:
    • ENGRMAE 10
    • Math 2A-B-D
    • Physics 7C-D, Physics 7LC-LD
    • Chem 1A, Chem 1LE
Other 90 units or less, unless the student has already made substantial progress in courses required for the major. Students must demonstrate a plan to graduate in no more than 15 total quarters.

 

Biomedical Engineering
Requirements Description
Cumulative UC GPA 2.70 GPA
Course grades Minimum 3.0 GPA in all courses required for the major and completion of at least the following:

  • BME 1
  • Math 2A-B-D
  • Physics 7C-D, Physics 7LC-LD
  • Chem 1A-B-C, Chem 1LC
Other 90 units or less, unless the student has already made substantial progress in courses required for the major. Students must demonstrate a plan to graduate in no more than 15 total quarters.

 

Biomedical Engineering, Premedical

Course grades Minimum 3.50 GPA in all courses required for the major and completion of at least the following:

  • BME1
  • Math 2A-B-D

Chemical Engineering

Civil Engineering

Computer Engineering

  • EECS 12, EECS 20, EECS 31

Computer Science and Engineering
Requirements Description
Cumulative UC GPA 2.7 overall and 2.7 quarterly GPA in the quarter immediately preceding the change of major request.
Course grades Minimum 3.0 GPA in prerequisite courses:

  • Math 2A-B-D.
  • Physics 7C-7D, 7LC-7LD.
  • ICS 21-22 or CSE 31-32 or ICS 31-32 or CSE 41-42.
Other
  • Students admitted to the major in Computer Science and Engineering will be assigned to the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences or The Henry Samueli School of Engineering based on enrollment.
  • Students with more than 90 units will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, provided they have made substantial progress in courses required for the major.

 

Engineering (General)
